Let’s Get This Party Started

  1. Schedule a call with Erin to discuss your vision.
  2. We send a customized proposal, and you follow up with any questions.

Step 1: Apply for your Massachusetts marriage license

Step 2: Wait three days (or skip the wait)
  • Massachusetts has a 3-day waiting period before your license is issued. In a hurry? A judge can waive it with a Marriage Without Delay form. Once it's in hand, your license is valid for 60 days, plenty of time to chase the perfect forecast.

Step 3: Pick your spot
  • City Hall is lovely, but it's not your only option: the Boston Public Garden at sunrise, the Seaport at golden hour, a Cape Cod beach, a Berkshires overlook, a White Mountains summit. I know where the light is prettiest (and which spots need a simple permit). Location scouting is part of the deal.

Step 4: Skip the officiant search (hi, it's me)
  • I'm ordained and authorized to solemnize marriages in Massachusetts, and officiating is included in every elopement collection at no extra charge. I get to know your story, write a ceremony that's actually about you two, and lead it on the day. Want your best friend to do the honors instead? Massachusetts lets a friend or family member officiate your wedding with a $25 one-day designation from the Governor’s office, and I’ll happily stay behind the camera.

Step 5: Say your vows (I'll catch every second)
  • Massachusetts doesn't require witnesses. Just you two. And the moment I pronounce you married, I'm already back behind the camera catching the celebration.

Step 6: Sign, file, celebrate
  • We sign your marriage license, you return it to the city or town hall that issued it, and you're officially, legally married. Lobster rolls optional, but strongly encouraged.

  • That's $500 to $800 for someone you met once on a video call, a script that could be about anyone, and a vendor who leaves five minutes after “I do.”

Option 2: A photographer who “signs only”
  • Some photographers are ordained to sign your license but don't lead a ceremony. You're legally married, but there's no one to guide your vows, tell your story, or make the moment feel like a wedding.

Wait, is this actually legal?
  • Completely! I became ordained in 2021 to help couples get married when COVID turned weddings upside down, and I have the official certificate from the Massachusetts Secretary of the Commonwealth to prove it. I lead your ceremony, we sign your marriage license, and you are really, truly married. You two apply for the license together at any MA city or town hall (there’s a 3-day waiting period and it’s valid for 60 days), Massachusetts doesn’t require witnesses, and I’ll walk you through every step. It’s easier than it sounds, promise!

Can you really officiate AND photograph at the same time?
  • Yes! It’s my favorite party trick. I write your ceremony with the photography in mind: I lead your vows, then step back into photographer mode for everything surrounding them. Want wall-to-wall ceremony coverage from a second angle? Add a second photographer and you’ll have both of us on it.

What if the weather is bad?
  • I always encourage embracing whatever the weather ends up being, especially since I can shoot in any type of light. It's going to be a unique experience no matter what Mother Nature throws at us, and we’re going to document it all.

Can we bring our animals?
  • Ahhh…you better! You just want to be sure that your Pup will be cool with us shooting without him for a bit. We don’t have to leave them in the car, of course, but we should get some photos of just the two of you, so if we can leash them to a tree near us, they’re more than welcome (seriously, they’re encouraged!).

When will I receive my photos?
  • For engagements, photos are delivered within 2-3 weeks. Weddings are delivered within 3-5 weeks. For your specific timeline and turnaround, email Erin at erin@erinofboston.com!

How much does it cost to elope in Boston?
  • My elopement collections run $1,800 to $3,800 depending on hours of coverage (officiating always included), and the all-inclusive Adventure Elopement is $5,800. Beyond that, budget about $50 for your Massachusetts marriage license and whatever feels right for flowers, outfits, and celebratory oysters.

Do we need witnesses to elope in Massachusetts?
  • Nope! Massachusetts doesn't require witnesses. Just you two, your marriage license, and someone authorized to marry you (hi, hello, that's me).

Can you photograph a Boston City Hall elopement?
  • Absolutely! City Hall ceremonies run during business hours and are wonderfully quick. Or skip the line entirely: since I'm your officiant, we can hold your ceremony in the Public Garden, at the Athenaeum, or on a Cape Cod beach, any day of the week, no appointment needed.

Do we need a permit to elope in a Boston park?
  • Sometimes! Boston Parks asks for a simple, inexpensive permit for ceremonies in spots like the Public Garden. Don't stress it: I'll tell you exactly what your location needs. It's part of the planning I do with every couple. (Eloping in a Massachusetts state park instead? There’s an easy special-use permit for that too.)

    Do you photograph LGBTQ+ elopements?
    • Louder for the people in the back: YES. LGBTQ+ couples aren’t just welcome here, they’re celebrated (Kellie + Tiff up top said it better than I ever could). As an LGBTQ+ friendly officiant and Boston elopement photographer, I’ll write and lead a ceremony that sounds like the two of you: your names, your pronouns, your story, zero templates.
